When I was wiping my engine off after a fishing trip I noticed some oil(the XD stuff) at the lower unit near a black tube that connects to the lower unit on the forward edge of the lower unit at the topmost part of the unit. I believe that anyone familiar with the e-tec will immediately know what I am refering to. I would like to first know what the tube is for as it comes down from the engine(I guess) makes a hose to hose connection and then goes to the lower unit via an external fitting.. is it possible it is carrying motor oil to something down there?? It seems like there is oil around that rubber fitting. May be coincidence.I see nothing in the owner's manual identifying that tube and connection.

As you might expect I am paranoid when I see anything different on my engine . Maybe I have not noticed it before.

Any insights to this would be helpful.

Thanks to all...

David

After I posted this I searched furthur and found that this is a connection to the lower unit for a speedometer attachment. There is a small hole in th leading edge of the lower unit for that feature. And I believe the oil, which is mixed with water is from the grease in the shaft that the motor rotates on..I feel the greased seals. Maybe that is all this is about...I think all is OK.
